Stuff and gigs

Well what has been going on?

Well, there was a Roberta Flack concert (with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra) that was postponed as the power was lost during the hot period when the temperature reach a whopping 46.6 degrees - I didn't bother going to the new date as I had other things to do and I wasn't that fussed about the gig anyway. I was going to the gig with Sharon, but she didn't go to the other date either.

I went to another stunning gig by the Waifs (at the Hi Fi Bar with Georgina and Steph) - those guys just don't know how to do a bad gig - every time I have seen them, I have been blown away by their talent and charisma.

Unfortunately that was my last night with Georgina as we seem to have met at the wrong time - but it was a very positive and enjoyable three months and I wish her the very best.

I have set up Greta to be my friend Georgie's new housemate - I think that they'll hit it off well - I also went to Georgie's birthday meal at the Napier Hotel.

I went to see Simply Red at the Palais Theatre with Steph. What can I say about that? Mick Hucknall's voice was stunning - the band were tight and did fine versions of all the songs - I knew most of the songs and there are a lot of fine songs in their catalogue. However, there was no edge to the gig at all - there was no warmth - there was no connection between the band members ofrbetween the band and the audience. I could have just watched a DVD of them. The show was great but has left me with nothing - that's a shame. I saw Terri and Trena at the gig and they thought the same.

I went to the big RockWiz recording at the Sidney Myer Bowl (with Margaret) that had loads of fantastic live music - all sorts of acts and covers of old classics. It was a superb night and very enjoyable and amusing. It finished on a big high when Judith Durham (from the Seekers) singing The Carnival is Over - it produced a standing ovation that went on and on.

I might be moving soon as my rent went up three months ago and is going up again in another three months - it's getting out of hand, so if I am going to pay more, I'll go somewhere else - I've been here three and half years, so a change will be nice.

My mate Gillian was in town from Scotland - we used to work together at the bank - we went out one evening with Bec, Ness and Heather - it was a great evening. Other people I have caught up with this month have been Lisa, Ruth, Terri, Matt, Sharon and Charlotte (who I am helping with a website). Another friend from the past returned to Melbourne after 4 years away - her name is Ruth and I caught up with her and Edwin - the three of us used to work together.

And last night I had the pleasure of going to see an old favourite of mine, Mary Coughlan. I have seen her a few times back in the UK but the last time was probably 12 years ago. I was thrilled to get to see her again and it was lovely that it was at somewhere as intimate as Bennett's Lane Jazz Club. I was supposed to be going to the gig with Jo nad Kelly but due to a double-booking they couldn't go, but Karin came along and Jane was there with three of her mates, so that was good.
